Jayapura, May 31, 2024 — Closing the month of May with heartfelt gratitude, the congregation gathered for the Key Thanksgiving Service of the Month, filled with faith-strengthening and comforting words. In his sermon titled “The Lord is My Helper,” Evangelist Edlin Dimo, S.Th delivered a profound message from Hebrews 13:6, emphasizing that God’s help is real and faithful to every believer, regardless of the circumstances and struggles they face.

"So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’" – Hebrews 13:6

GOD’S HELP IN DAILY LIFE

Ev. Edlin began the reflection by encouraging the congregation to contemplate their health, work, and the burdens of family that many feel at the end of the month. However, he stated that the mere presence of the congregation at the end of May is evidence that “God is a faithful helper.”

He explained that humans are social beings who cannot live without assistance. “From birth to death, we cannot be alone,” he said. However, more than human assistance, Ev. Edlin emphasized that only Jesus Christ is able to help us from the bondage of sin and provide eternal salvation.

BELIEVE AND TRUST: THE KEY TO SEEING GOD’S MIRACLES

With great enthusiasm, Ev. Edlin urged the congregation to hold fast to two responses of faith: believe and trust. He provided the example of Noah’s faith in building the ark without seeing the flood, and the disciples who continued to cast their nets after a fruitless night of fishing.

“Our task is not to understand first, but to believe first,” he said. “When we believe and trust, then God is responsible for what He has promised in our lives.”

GOD, THE HELPER IN THE MIDST OF STRUGGLES

At the core of his message, Ev. Edlin again stressed that God is the Helper who never disappoints. He pointed out that many people may feel disappointed when others fail to help them, but God never breaks His promises.

“If humans can break promises, God does not. He says: ‘I will never leave you, nor forsake you.’”

He also addressed the tendency of people to diminish their faith when facing large problems. “Don’t focus on the size of the problem, focus on the size of our God,” he asserted.

A CALL TO SHARPEN FAITH

In closing, Ev. Edlin encouraged the congregation to enter the new month with sharper faith and larger hearts. He noted that the larger our hearts and minds, the smaller we perceive our problems. “Because we have a great God,” he said.

The service concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving, surrendering lives, and strengthening the congregation, especially those struggling with work, family, health, and the future.
